Technical grade — Sodium metabisulfite is commonly used to precipitate dissolved gold out of aqua regia and gold chloride solutions. Use about 1-1/2 tablespoons of sodium metabisulfite (SMB) for every ounce of dissolved scrap metal in solution. Good ventilation is critical as adding SMB to aqua regia produces corrosive vapors. NC-10319

Lab Grade — Sodium Metal appears as a silvery soft metal that becomes grayish white upon exposure to air. Burns violently with explosions that may spatter the material. NC-14592
Lab grade — Readily forms colorless hexagonal crystals. Can be used to make Nitric Acid when combined with Hydrochloric Acid. It is a strong oxidizer but stable under ordinary conditions. Its many uses include the manufacture of pyrotechnics and fertilizer plus as pottery enamel. Restricted to Standard Ground only. NC-1867
