Our lab grade Potassium dichromate appears as bright orange transparent crystals with a bitter, metallic taste.

Also known as Potassium bichromate, it is soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol. It is a powerful oxidizing agent and a dangerous fire risk in contact with organic materials. Very toxic if ingested.

  • Potassium dichromate is the preferred compound for cleaning laboratory glassware of any possible organics.
  • When dissolved in concentrated nitric acid it is called Schwerter's solution and is used to test the purity of silver.
  • Furniture makers use diluted potassium dichromate to accelerate the aging process of cherry, walnut, and mahogany wood.
  • Other common uses include electroplating, printing, dying and leather tanning.
